Star Wars: Age of Republic – Darth Maul

The newest issue in the Marvel Age of Republic series was released today. Following last week’s Qui-Gon Jinn issue, we get a story about the Sith Zabrak that ended that Jedi’s physical life: Darth Maul.

Sith Apprentice Darth Maul has long waited in the shadows under the tutelage of Darth Sidious for the day when they would bring about the destruction of the Jedi Order. But Maul’s lust for battle drives him to act. And with the dark side of the Force as his weapon, the Jedi’s days are numbered…

STAR WARS AGE OF REPUBLIC: Darth Maul in “Ash”

Age of Republic – Darth Maul #1 takes place prior to The Phantom Menace, serving as an epilogue to Cullen Bunn’s 2012 Darth Maul mini-series.

Maul, Sith apprentice to Darth Sidious, strains at his master’s leash anxiously waiting for his chance to destroy the Jedi Order. Sidious demands patience, waiting for his own secret plans to fall into place.

I won’t spoil the issue for you, but I truly loved seeing how disgusted Maul appeared when he found himself wearing Jedi robes.

Jody Houser writes a solid story, and Luke Ross brings Darth Maul to life in the same amazing manner he did in the Bunn series of yore.

If you love Darth Maul, you need to read this one-shot, but don’t forget to read Bunn’s series first–the throwbacks references are worth realizing.
